Camp Dates
Range Youth Camp runs from Tuesday, June 24, through Friday, June 27. Registration is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Mountain Time) on Tuesday. Camp comes to a close with the awards ceremony following lunch on Friday. Parents are invited to attend lunch and the awards ceremony.
The Purpose
The primary goal of Youth Range Camp is to teach the basic principles of range management, especially relating to livestock and wildlife. We hope that the participants will acquire an understanding of the complex nature of the interactions and relationships between rangeland resources and other resources and uses.
Who Can Attend?
All youth between ages 13 and 18 are eligible to attend. Permission of a parent/guardian is required as noted on the application form. The camp has room for 35 participants on a first-come basis, so please send in your application early.
Camp Activities
Campers will learn about range principles, including range plants, soils and ecological sites, through field activities.
Campers will:
• Learn how to evaluate range properly
• Learn about range and livestock interactions
• Be taught about the historical uses of range
• Take part in a range judging contest and exam in which they will compete for a belt buckle and plaque
• Play range games
The Cost
The registration fee is $140 to be paid by the applicant or sponsor. Many Soil Conservation Districts (SCD), 4-H clubs and grazing associations have sponsored many campers. Contact your local county Extension agent, 4-H youth development agent, FFA/Vo-ag instructor or SCD office for assistance.

Range Youth Camp is held at Hanson’s Logging Cabin Ranch 16 miles north of Amidon. Campers will receive a detailed map and signs will be posted for those unfamiliar with the area.
